The automotive aftermarket is an excellent career choice for your sons and daughters.
Trained professional automotive technicians are in high demand. They can earn excellent starting salaries, and an experienced technician can earn $75,000 or more. Today’s technicians must have knowledge and skills in electrical/electronic systems, computers, diagnostic processes, and much more. Another important consideration is that this is a job that can’t be “outsourced” to China or India.
There are many excellent technician training vocational schools. A few are listed on this site. ASE, the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence is the organization that certifies technicians in many categories. ASE also operates NATEF – the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation, and uses NATEF standards to certify automotive training schools. ASE has certified more than 2,000 automotive, collision, and heavy duty/diesel training schools. A full listing is available on the NATEF website. Any ASE/NATEF post-secondary school is acceptable for a GAAS Scholarship.
And, if your son or daughter is considering a career in manufacturing or distribution, the automotive industry would make a great fit. A recent study by the Motor Equipment Manufacturer's Association shows that automotive parts manufacturers are the nations largest employer of manufacturing jobs. Here is a link to their report.
So, encourage your son or daughter to consider a career in the aftermarket and apply for a GAAS Scholarship today!
